Lewis Hamilton wins by a nose (a cold wet one!)

STAFF at Santander are revved up after naming the Guide Dogs go walkies mascot after a driving superstar.
Young Labrador pup Lewis, named after Formula One star Lewis Hamilton, will be the face of this summer’s go walkies events across the country, aiming to raise thousands of pounds for Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Project manager at Guide Dogs Caroline Shields said: “We are very excited to meet Lewis, our new go walkies mascot. We can’t wait to share his progress and the progress of the go walkies project with everyone at Santander.”
Go walkies is the first ever series of national events where dogs, rather than their owners, are sponsored to take part. Last year, over 110 walks were held across the UK raising enough money to support nearly two guide dog from birth until retirement.  (Each guide dog costs the organisation approximately £48,500.)
As part of Santander’s support for Guide Dogs in 2011, a guide dog puppy was named by over 100 staff in the company’s Liverpool office.
They voted for their favourite name for the go walkies mascot, choosing from Alonso, Lewis or Jenson. It was a close race, but Lewis pipped the others to the chequered flag.
Mrs Shields said: “There are 180,000 blind and partially sighted people in the UK who are unable to leave home. We want to reach out to them and provide the support that will help them get out and about on their own terms and Santander’s sponsorship will provide us with vital funds needed to make go walkies the UK’s largest sponsored dog walk within the next three years.”
